Laser Marking Products Selector Chart

Type of metal

Stainless steel – Thermark LMM14 aerosol or Cermark LMM6000 aerosol
Chrome or nickel plating – Thermark LMM14 aerosol
Anodized metal – LMM6018.LF self-adhesive tape
All other metals – Thermark LMM14 aerosol

Volume & marking speed

Individual plates (low volume) – aerosol Thermark LMM14
Batch processing (medium volume) – aerosol or airbrush Thermark LMM14
Inline (high volume) – auto application liquid Thermark LMM14, or screen print Cermark LMM6012
LMM6018.LF self-adhesive paper-backed tape is slowest as the laser must burn through paper backing before bonding.

Wet vs. dry process

Wet processing – use aerosol or liquid/paste inks, wash off excess.
Dry processing – use self-adhesive paper-backed tape; wipe of excess

Durability of ink coat after application and prior to laser marking

Thermark LMM14 dries as powder making it easy to wash excess off after marking (requires marking soon after application due to possible smudging).
If parts need to be handled, transport, or stacked before marking we recommend Cermark LMM6000 liquid/paste or LMM6018.LF tape.

Low tolerance for mark variability

If the thickness of the marking material must be consistent use: LMM6018.LF self-adhesive paper-backed tape or LMM6012 for screen printing.
