Laser engraving rubber stamps is a simple and cost effective method which also has the advantage of offering a whilst you wait service. The process is so fast some stamp supplies have installed Co2 laser engraving machines exclusively.

Special rubber sheet has been developed for laser processing which has a suitable compression strength and quality ink transfer properties. The process of laser engraving requires the beam to be accurately focussed and as such rubber stamp sheet for lasers is usually A4 in size so the thickness of the rubber can be accurately controlled.

The depth of the engraving is determined by the power of the laser, laser power also effects the processing time and a 50 watt laser will be approximately twice as productive as a 25 watt system, a lower wattage system may also require more than one pass to achieve the same mark as a more powerful laser.

There are other possibilities for the laser too, engraving signs, badges, labels and the like.

Materials
Laser rubber is recommended, also known as pre-vulcanised rubber.

Machine
A4 sheets can be placed together so the size of your laser will be dictated by the volume you need to produce. Lasers with larger work areas can generally be fitted with more powerful laser cartridges.

Machine Options
Although today’s laser rubber is low odour the process creates a good deal of very fine dust so you will defiantly require a HEPA filter system. Air assist is also recommended.

Workshop equipment
None required.

Software
SureLab PhotoLaser+ includes a host of special features for rubber stamp manufacture and laser processing.
