Being able to engrave a gift, tag or label whilst your customer waits is the recipe for success for the market trader and whilst the process of engraving was once mastered over many years Suregrave’s technology means you can become proficient in just a few hours and start making profit immediately.

In the right hands an engraver is also much more than just a tool for marking and personalisation, it can also be used to manufacture items such as badges, luggage labels and signs, some of our customers even cut out shapes from acrylic to sell as funky jewellery.

On the high street retailers charge up to £5 for engraving up to 14 characters and £10 per item for 14 characters so it’s easy to see why engraving has become the new added value service.

Our research also showed us most people would rather have their message reproduced with their own handwriting rather than with typed characters so Suregrave have introduced the Signature Accessory. This allows the customers message to be digitised and re-sized to fit a corresponding space on the gift. It’s simple to use and makes the purchase of a gift fun and the gift really personal.

Materials
Almost any flat, concave, convex or round jewellery item or gift can be engraved provided it is held securely. To produce custom sized badges, labels or signs then we recommend one of the Suregrave engraving laminates, these can be cut to fit the bed of your machine and allow you to cut to size and shape.

Machine
For very low volumes you could consider a pantograph machine however the price is so close to computerised machines these days that most customers opt for automation.

The right machine for you will be dictated both by the size of the gifts and the space you have available for a machine. If you don’t have access to electricity then a small generator will do. The Wizzard 6 is very portable and will suit engraving start ups with the option to trade in the machine for its original value within 12 months against a larger Suregrave machine. The bigger Rotation S is the ideal machine for the trader with a fixed and permanent pitch with a small footprint yet out size engraving area. The Rotation S is the fastest and easiest machine on the market to swap between flat and round modes.

Today’s fashion for funky jewellery makes a laser engraver an option. They will leave a bright polished edge around acrylic and they can reproduce photographs too. A Co2 laser will not mark pewter or precious metals so it is best considered in conjunction with a rotary engraver.

Machine Options
For the finest and most detailed engraving we recommend the SureTouch accessory with a diamond marking tool. To provide a truly personal message use the Signature Accessory to reproduce your customers handwriting. Depending upon your gifts a selection of jigs for the vice will also be useful.

Workshop equipment
Market traders don’t usually require any additional workshop equipment.

Software
Surelab Lite will provide the basics for text import and engrave but signmakers wanting to Scan and Vectorise logos or produce Braille signs should choose SureLab Pro. SureLab is also available in a laser output only module SureLab PhotoLaser + which includes a host of special features for laser technology.
