Jewellery businesses have a readymade market for engraving with many stock items lending themselves to personalisation. It’s easy to see why to some retailers why engraving has become the new “added value service”. A well known high street retailer charges £5 for engraving up to 14 characters and £10 per item for 14 characters and they could engrave hundreds of items every week.

The process of engraving was once mastered over many years but Suregrave’s technology means you can become proficient in just a few hours and start wining business by offering a service that many of your competitors don’t.

Our research also showed us most people would rather have their message reproduced with their own handwriting rather than with typed characters so Suregrave have introduced the Signature Accessory. This allows the customers message to be digitised and re-sized to fit a corresponding space on the gift. It’s simple to use and makes the purchase of a gift fun and the gift really personal.

Materials
Almost any flat, concave, convex or round jewellery item or gift can be engraved provided it is held securely.

Machine
For very low volumes you could consider a pantograph machine however the price is so close to computerised machines these days that most customers opt for automation.

The right machine for you will be dictated by the size of gifts rather than jewellery and whether they are just flat or flat and round. The Wizzard 6 will suit engraving start ups with the option to trade in the machine for its original value within 12 months against a larger Suregrave machine. The bigger Rotation S is the ideal machine for the Jeweller with a small footprint yet out size engraving area. The Rotation S is the fastest and easiest machine on the market to swap between flat and round modes.

Today’s fashion for acrylic jewellery makes a laser engraver also an option, as well as leaving a bright polished edge around the item it can also reproduce photographic images. A Co2 laser will not mark pewter or precious metals so it is best considered in conjunction with a rotary engraver.

Machine Options
For the finest and most detailed engraving we recommend the SureTouch accessory with a diamond marking tool. To provide a truly personal message use the Signature Accessory to reproduce your customers handwriting. Depending upon your gifts a selection of jigs for the vice will also be useful.

Workshop equipment
Jewellers don’t usually require any additional workshop equipment.

Software
Surelab Lite will provide the basics for text import and engrave but signmakers wanting to Scan and Vectorise logos or produce Braille signs should choose SureLab Pro. SureLab is also available in a laser output only module SureLab PhotoLaser + which includes a host of special features for laser technology.
