How to Engrave Engraving Laminates

Mechanical Engravers
Engraving laminates can be quickly and easily engraved on a Suregrave machine using the pre-set "nose-cone" mode and "high speed tool" option. A nose cone is recommended to control the engraving depth in conjunction with a conventional cutter. For consistent character form use an "ASM vacuum boot", this will remove any swarf before it roll's under the cone, which can cause the cone to lift off the surface, producing uneven engraving.

To speed up setting of the Suregrave machines they feature automated surface setting for nose cone engraving.

A mechanical engraver will produce a deeper cut in plastics in a single operation when compared to a laser, this can be used to visual effect especially when reverse engraving where a 3 dimensional effect can be created.

Co2 Lasers
Trotec lasers are capable of "photographic reproduction" and highly detailed marking. They will engrave and cut laser engraving laminates with ease (laser laminates are acrylic based and specially manufactured for laser processing). Generally a laser of 25 - 30 watts is adequate for engraving and cutting and we recommend air-assist especially for cutting. Job manager contains pre set power, speed and pulse settings and autofocus can be used to set the focal length automatically.

The process of engraving is generally using the raster method although single line fonts can be engraved from SureLab PhotoLaser + using vector output. Shapes are cut using vector output, JobManager will pre determine and automatically select these modes making the use of a laser for processing this and other materials exceptionally simple.
