How to Engrave Gifts, Awards
and Pet Tags

![]()
Mechanical Engravers
Gifts, Awards and Pet Tags are readily engraved using a centre opening vice, this will ensure your engraving is always perfectly centred. Generally a static (non rotating) diamond cutter is used and this tool is perfect for a wide range of materials from soft and precious metals through to brass or stainless steel pet tags.

The process is fast and clean and as the diamond is kept static there is no noise from the spindle motor. Machines from the Suregrave line feature a pre set mode for diamond engraving in addition to automated surface setting.
For a deeper mark machines can be set to "cutter" mode.

Co2 Lasers
A Co2 laser will not mark soft or precious metals and these are best processed using a fiber laser. There are however many types of gifts or awards that can be processed with Trotec laser and these include acrylics and coated metals. In addition nickel coated or solid stainless steel can be marked using a special paste or spray available from Trotec called Thermark / Cermark. The mark produced using these consumables is etched molecularly onto the surface and is of matt finish.
