A well know high street retailer charges £5 for engraving up to 14 characters and £10 per item for 14 characters or more so it's easy to see how engraving has become the new "added value service" for many retailers.
Hardware shops have many stock lines that can be engraved including door knobs, name plates, cutlery, kitchen utensils, home decor (picture frames), torches, key rings, gifts and tools.
Lock and Security businesses engrave not only for the practical purposes of marking keys but also to engrave accessories and stainless steel door entry
systems and control panels, professional finishing the systems using Suregrave filler paint.
Both business types can easily (and profitably) produce custom signs using Suregrave products such as house signs from brass, aluminium or steel (with or without wooden backs), luggage tags and warning/directional signs maximising the potential of your foot traffic.
Your engraving service can easily be expanded by introducing new product lines for gifts and special occasions.

Materials Almost any material can be engraved provided it is held securely and the engraving tool properly ground. Machine The right machine for you will be dictated by the size of the signs and gifts and whether they are just flat or flat and round. The Wizzard 6 will suit engraving start ups with the option to trade in the machine for its original value within 12 months against a larger Suregrave machine. The bigger Wizzard 12 & Wizzard 16 offer increased speed and production on flat items but the ideal machine for this market is the Rotation S, providing the most economical footprint vs. engraving areas and the fastest swap between flat and round modes of any machine. If you favour producing metal signs in quantities then either the 2516i or 4824i machines are ideal. A laser engraver is also an option, especially useful for it's ability to reproduce photographic images, detailed text and highly polished light reflecting cut edges on acrylic. A Co2 laser will not mark pewter or precious metals so it is best considered in conjunction with a rotary engraver.

Machine Options If engraving laminates or wood you will need a swarf extraction system, for awards, gifts and glassware we recommend the SureTouch and diamond marking tool. |

Workshop equipment For the highest volumes of signs made from engraving laminate we recommend the Swiss manufactured Varga Saw which can be used to cut full sheets down to size. There are cost savings to be made purchasing raw materials in their full manufactured sizes.
Software Surelab Lite will provide the basics for text import and engrave but signmakers wanting to Scan and Vectorise logos or produce Braille signs should choose SureLab Pro. SureLab is also available in a laser output only module SureLab PhotoLaser + which includes a host of special features for laser technology.
