Diamond cutters come in two types:
Conical
Conical Diamond cutters are used to drag across the surface to scribe a line. Conical diamonds can be supplied as a long cutter that fits down through the engraving machine spindle or as a nosecone attachment that is screwed onto the bottom of the spindle. Once the nosecone assembly has been purchased, the diamond cutter can be removed and replaced as a separate part.
Faceted
Faceted diamonds several faces ground into the tip. They are used for burnishing and must be rotated at speed when engraving. They are routinely used for high visibility lines on metals and for glass engraving.
